Eleven venues sit in the United States, headlined by the Final at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey. Cities such as Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston are large international airline hubs with deep carrier competition — generally the cheapest US gateways. The majority of arenas are NFL stadiums reconfigured for soccer, holding 60,000 to 82,000 fans.

Trip Planning

What to Know Before You Go

Visa & Entry
ESTA is required for Visa Waiver nationals ($21 fee, apply online no later than 72 hours before flying). Citizens outside the Visa Waiver Program need a B1/B2 visa — expect processing to span weeks. Submit early — visa demand will be elevated around the tournament.
Stays of up to 180 days are visa-free for most nationalities. An FMM tourist permit is granted on arrival, or available online pre-departure. Plan separate entry permits if you're attending matches in both Mexico and the US.
Visa-exempt nationals need an eTA ($7 CAD, applied online). A full visa, where required, should be filed for early. Turnaround is generally fast but can lag around major events. Each eTA is linked to a specific passport and is good for 5 years.
Currency & Costs
Currency: US Dollar (USD). Credit and debit cards work almost everywhere. Tipping is standard — 18-20% at restaurants and $1-2 per drink at bars. Plan on $15-25 per meal at casual restaurants and $8-15 for fast food. Stadium food and drink pricing runs well above street prices.
Currency: Mexican Peso (MXN). USD is widely taken in tourist areas, but paying in pesos delivers better rates. A 10-15% tip is the norm. You'll spend $5-10 per meal locally, making Mexico the cheapest of the host countries. ATMs are widely available.
The currency is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). Card payments — contactless included — are universal. Tip 15-20% in restaurants. Pricing is roughly on par with the US: $15-25 per meal. Note: displayed Canadian prices exclude tax, meaning your bill ends up 13-15% over the menu number.
Weather (June-July)
Conditions differ significantly across host cities. The south is hot and humid: Miami 32°C, Houston 35°C, Dallas 36°C. The West Coast stays milder and drier: LA 25°C, San Francisco 18°C, Seattle 22°C. In the east (New York 29°C, Philadelphia 30°C, Boston 27°C), conditions are warm and humid. For outdoor stadiums: sunscreen, a hat, and stay hydrated.
Rainy weather sets in from June. Mexico City sits at 2,200m, so daytime hovers around 25°C while evenings drop noticeably. Pack layered clothes and a rain shell. Temperatures in Guadalajara and Monterrey climb to 30-33°C with more humidity. Afternoon thunderstorms happen often but tend to pass quickly.
The country's prime weather season. In Toronto, expect about 26°C with occasional humid spells. Vancouver runs about 22°C with extended daylight (up to 16 hours) and minimal rain. Outdoor events are comfortable in both cities. Evening matches call for light layers.
Practical Info
Power: Type A/B plugs, 120V. English is the dominant language. Ride-hailing via Uber and Lyft covers every host city. Free WiFi is widespread at hotels, cafes, and airports. Get an eSIM or prepaid SIM at the airport to handle mobile data. Public transport runs the gamut — strong in New York, weak in Dallas and Houston.
Power: Type A/B plugs at 127V (US-compatible). Spanish is the primary language though plenty of English is spoken in tourist districts and near the venues. Uber and DiDi operate reliably in all three host cities. A local Telcel or AT&T Mexico SIM bought at the airport handles cheap data and calls.
Type A/B sockets, 120V (US-compatible). Toronto runs in English; Vancouver in English/French. Uber is available in both cities. Public transit works well — TTC in Toronto, SkyTrain in Vancouver, both stadium-connected. Mobile plans in Canada are costly — visitors should look at an eSIM or prepaid SIM.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is EgyptAir direct the best option from Cairo to the World Cup?

For New York and Washington DC matches, yes — EgyptAir is the only non-stop carrier and flight times match or beat one-stop alternatives. For other US host cities (Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Kansas City), you will need a connection regardless of carrier. Compare EgyptAir's CAI to JFK plus American or JetBlue onward leg versus Turkish Airlines CAI to IST plus Turkish's direct US flights — Turkish often wins for Chicago, Boston and Miami. Qatar Airways CAI to DOH connects well to Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and the West Coast.

Do Egyptian citizens need a visa for the USA, Mexico and Canada?

Yes to all three. The US B1/B2 requires a DS-160 application, USD 185 fee, and in-person interview at the US Embassy in Garden City, Cairo. Wait times for first-time applicants are currently four to eight months. Canada requires a Temporary Resident Visa with biometrics captured at the Cairo VAC, typically processed in 30 to 60 days. Mexico requires a consular visa from the Mexican Embassy in Cairo unless you hold valid US, Canadian, UK or Schengen visas — in that case, no separate Mexican visa is needed for stays under 180 days.

How is the flight experience on EgyptAir's long-haul to the US?

EgyptAir's JFK and IAD services run on Boeing 777-300ER with a three-class configuration. Economy pitch is around 31 to 32 inches, respectable for the sector length. Halal meals are standard, and a sparkling water service on the return leg is something EgyptAir regulars swear by. Premium economy is limited to the 777s; business class is a dated staggered layout but fully flat. As a Star Alliance member, EgyptAir tickets earn miles that redeem across United, Lufthansa and Air Canada — useful for onward connections or return upgrades.

What about Egyptian fans based in Alexandria, Sharm or Luxor — do I feed through Cairo?

Yes. EgyptAir runs reliable domestic feeder flights from Alexandria Borg El Arab (HBE), Sharm El Sheikh (SSH), Luxor (LXR), Hurghada (HRG) and Aswan (ASW) into Cairo. Buying a single through-ticket on EgyptAir protects you if the domestic leg delays. Allow a minimum three-hour connection at CAI given terminal transfer times at peak hours. Some fans from Sharm opt to drive to Cairo (6 to 7 hours by road via the Ain Sokhna route) rather than pay a domestic feeder; this only makes sense if you are traveling as a group and can split fuel costs.

Can I pair the World Cup with visiting family in the US diaspora?

This is how most Egyptian fans plan the trip. The Egyptian-American communities in New Jersey, Queens, Jersey City, Bay Ridge (Brooklyn), and the Coptic communities in Los Angeles, Dallas and New Jersey offer homestays that significantly cut hotel costs. Many Egyptian families in the US have been planning the tournament as a multi-generational reunion — the Egyptian Consulate in New York is expected to coordinate supporter allocations through diaspora associations. For those without family contacts, Egyptian-Arab community centres in major US cities are welcoming and often run match-day watch events.

How does the Egyptian Pound's movement affect my World Cup budget?

The EGP has seen significant volatility against the USD in recent years, which affects two things: the initial airfare purchase (locked in EGP at booking) and on-ground spending in dollars. Book flights through an Egyptian travel agency in EGP when the rate looks favourable — the moment you pay, the currency risk on the airfare ends. For on-ground US costs, open a USD-denominated account with Banque Misr, NBE or CIB before travel so you can move pounds to dollars during a strong-EGP window. A Wise or Payoneer USD wallet works too. Never convert large sums at US airport exchanges — the spread is punishing.
